First of all, I would like to thank GG for the opportunity of allowing me to write a blog on her website, and believe me, it is not entirely without risks for any humiliation and B. comments. However, I will try my best to keep it proper, and polite.
Spending 4 months in the incredible Sumatra, it was time for the next adventure which was: exploring Flores! How excited I was when GG asked me to join her and friends to visit Flores 6 months earlier. Of course you have already read aalll the blogs of GG, which describe the most beautiful, crazy and enjoyable moments in Flores. By this blog I hope to give you another perspective of the trip. Apart from the common experiences of how we enjoyed the people, nature and culture, I think our sweet, sportive, professional selfie maker, Indonesia traveller: Guteri, experienced the little things probably quite different than me, read: Dutch, lazy, white, fat, naive, though super funny girl, eh i mean bitch.. At least that's how I've been called those 2 weeks, and still actually.
The intro was long enough. So, the moment we arrived in Flores we have been hopping from one family member to the other. If it wasn't family of GG, we could stay at a family place of her friend, e.g. The belooooved Angel. The way, for me, total strangers welcome you to their house is bizarre. GG and Angel told me when I would visit their family, it is polite to eat whatever they offer, and preferable take 3 times more you would normally do. They where right, first of all, the food was sososo enak. While normally i can find some troubles in behaving polite, this time it was a piece of cake: I ate all the food that was offered. The bad thing is, you can significantly notice.
I would like to continue to another experience within the Flores' culture. When GG told me she was invited to a wedding and asked me to join her, i was a little bit nervous. After I visited some traditional wedding in Sumatra I felt I have seen enough from the Indonesian weddings. GG insisted on going, and therefor we prepared. The fist problems occurred when we had to find something proper to wear. GG eventually ended up in a dress of her mom, or was it your grandmother? And I did have this beautiful skirt and crop top, however it did not fit me at aaaall after all these food, and my fat bare white belly was forced to show itself. Conclusion: the looks were ridiculous. With somewhat uncomfortable feelings I entered the wedding. In my entire life i have been to more Indonesian weddings then Dutch ones (only 1). It was hugeeee, people looked gorgeous, the bride was beautiful and talented in singing, and mr. Ganggus played the saxophone incredible good. After dinner everyone started to dance, by putting aside all my ashamed feelings, i did some (forced) tries to join traditional dances. GG and her friend Fadly with their amazing dance skills continued while i went hide myself between the public. Only when Cita Citata (my absolute favourite to listen in angkot) began to sing I instead had to force GG to dance with me. Maybe a little bit too early the wedding came to a special end, however a very enjoyable evening.
Our final evening in Flores we spent with the aunt of GG. I think a very funny, young, enthusiastic women who has some common characteristics as GG. She asked us to join her and her Austrian friends to a bar. A lovely bar with live music, a lot of people and maybe even more important: beer. After the abrupt end of the wedding party where we were dancing like no other (somewhat....) GG and I, or maybe me only, were in the mood to continue dancing. If i remember well, i lost GG on the dancefloor not even 5 minutes after we arrived. The bar wasn't that big, so when i looked beside me I saw GG litterly lying in a chair in front on the dance floor sleeping with her mouth half open. In my entire 'party' life, which is quite big i think, i have experienced many weird things. Anyways GG made it to the top. Never a friend felt asleep in front of dancefloor :'). How hard i can laugh about it now, how silly i felt dancing alone between some 'too' interested Indonesian man.
Time to say goodbye, like we said bye to Flores. We took the plane kemBALI, a scary flight when the alarm let hear itself. Whatever, all still safe and healthy. Thank you GG for this amazing weeks.
